On November 22, 2019, the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held an awarding ceremony at the Culture Center of Macao to recognize outstanding contributions made by individuals, organizations, enterprises, teams and groups from various sectors in 2019 in Macao. Nam Kwong was awarded the Silver Medal of Lotus Flower.
The awarding ceremony kicked off to the music of Chinese National Anthem. Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, presented the Grand Medal of Lotus Flower, the Silver Medal of Lotus Flower, Orders of Merit, awards for outstanding services and certificates in succession. Fu Jiangguo, chairman of Board of Nam Kwong, on behalf of the company, received the medal presented by Chui Sai On. This is another major award presented to Nam Kwong by the Macao SAR government after it granted the Order of Merit in Industry and Commerce to the group in December 2015. It is reported the highest honor presented to an enterprise by the Macao SAR government so far, embodying its full recognition on Nam Kwong’s service and contributions to Macao.
After the awarding, Fu Jianguo took interviews by media outlets including the Phoenix Satellite Television, Macao Cable TV and Macao Asia Satellite TV. He expressed cordial appreciation to the Macao SAR government for its trust in the company and to social sectors for their support. Fu also thanked people working and worked in Nam Kwong. In a historic year when Macao celebrates the 20th anniversary of its return to the motherland and Nam Kwong marks the 70th founding anniversary, winning the Silver Medal of Lotus Flower fully demonstrates the high recognition and appraise of Macao SAR government and society on Nam Kwong' contributions, Fu said. “This is a precious honor, and also a heavy responsibility asking us to do better,” he said. As the only centrally-administrated state-owned enterprise (SOE) headquartered in Macao, Nam Kwong will continue its commitment to serving for Macao society and assuming greater responsibilities in implementing the “one country, two systems” principle with Macao characteristics, he said. Speaking of its future development, he said that Nam Kwong would uphold to the philosophy of “Nam Kwong plus” in pursuing win-win cooperation and the development strategy of taking root in Macao, connecting Macao with the Chinese mainland, and expanding business overseas. Nam Kwong has been practicing the strategy of taking root in Macao over the past years. In the future, it will continue focusing on serving for the livelihood of local people so that the company can have its root deeper and local people can have greater sense of obtain. As for the strategy of connecting Macao with the Chinese mainland, he said the national initiative of further opening-up including the building of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area provided unprecedented opportunities for Macao to accelerate its integration into national development and diverse its economy and also for enterprises like Nam Kwong to further expand. Speaking of expanding business overseas, he said Nam Kwong would give full play to its strengths and take active actions in Portuguese-speaking countries and regions in the process of advancing economic globalization and the Belt and Road Initiative. Before this award, Nam Kwong founder Ke Zhengping was awarded the Honorable Medal of Golden Lotus Flower by the Macao SAR in 2003. In 2015, Nam Kwong received the Order of Merit in Industry and Commerce presented by the Macao SAR. China Travel Service (Macao) Limited won the Order of Merit in Traveling twice in 1991 and 2002. Ke Haifan, an employee of Nam Kwong and the group’s subsidary Grand Plaza were granted the Order of Merit in Traveling in 2015.
